Gastrointestinal cancer includes cancers associated with the gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs of digestive system of the human body. Gastrointestinal cancers include the cancers associated with esophagus, stomach, biliary system, liver, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus. The symptoms of gastrointestinal cancers vary and depend on the affected organ. The general symptoms include pain, abnormal bleeding, loss of appetite, obstruction (causing difficulty in swallowing or defecating) and other associated problems. The diagnosis requires endoscopy followed by biopsy as all affected organs are internal organs. Unlike symptoms, the treatment approach also varies and depends on the organ affected. The treatment depends on the size & location of tumor, type of cancer and also on the fact whether the cancer is invasive in nature or localized.
