Shoulder surgery is a means of treating injured shoulders when all non-surgical treatments have failed to treat the injury of the shoulder. Shoulder is one of the most flexible joints in the body and is also susceptible to a variety of injuries. Major injuries of the shoulder include shoulder dislocation, tear of the labrum, SLAP tear, capsular ligament tear, bicep tenodentitis, separated shoulder due to injury, dislocations of shoulder with fracture, rotator cuff tear, injuries of tendon namely tendinitis, bursitis and impingement syndrome, arthritis or osteolysis of the shoulder bones. Arthritis and physical injuries can also cause partial or complete damage of the shoulder joint.
Arthroscopic surgery is used to treat a number of shoulder injuries including rotator cuff treatment, removal of debries from shoulder joint, repair of glenoid labrum injury, repair of capsular ligament and SLAP lesions and also mild damage due to arthritis. Arthroscopy is also used to treat tendinitis and ligament ruptures of the shoulder. Open repair surgeries are carried out to treat dislocations with fractures, severe fractures of bones of shoulder, shoulder joint replacement surgery.
