Bunion surgery is also called Hallux Valgus correction surgery. It is a surgical process used to correct deformity of the foot near big toe. Bunion surgery is also called as Bunionectomy. A Bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of big toe. The bunion maybe due to inherited foot type, injuries or deformities present at birth. Bunions can cause severe pain and impairment in walking. The bunion is removed surgically by cutting it off from the toe
There are three procedures to remove bunions-

- Osteotomy- The big toe is cut after removal of bunion and realigned to normal position.
- Exostectomy- The bunion is removed without performing any realignment.
- Arthrodesis- The damaged joint is replaced with metal plates or screws to correct the deformity.
